The short version
- You can play as a guest. Signing in is only to keep your progress safe across devices.
- We keep what the game needs to work: your progress, your keeper name, your friends and trades, and basic visit details.
- No ads. No selling or sharing your information for advertising. No outside tracking or analytics tools.
- If you sign up for the closed beta, we keep your email only to invite you.
- There is no typed chat. Players talk with fixed quick-chat buttons.
- You can delete your account at any time, in the game or by email.
This policy covers Elderdawn (the game, on the web, Steam, iPhone and Android), this website and the support we give. Elderdawn is made by Gone Wrong Gaming LLC ("we", "us"). If you have a question about your information, write to support@gonewronggaming.com.
What we keep and why
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| A guest ID: a random number made for your device the first time you play. | So the game knows which save is yours without asking for any details. |
| Your game progress: dragons, items, coins, gems, chapters, scores and settings. | To save your game and keep it fair. Coins and gems are kept on our server so they can't be lost or faked. |
| Your keeper name and look, and your friend code. | So friends can find you and see you on leaderboards and in co-op games. |
| Friends and trades: who you've added, and trades you've offered or accepted. | To run the friends list and trading. |
| Sign-in details, only if you sign in. With Google, Apple or Steam we keep the account number that service gives us. With email we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your address, not the address itself. | So you can sign in again and get your progress back on any device. |
| Visit details: when you played, what kind of device and browser, and your internet (IP) address. | To keep the game running, spot cheating and abuse, and see how many people are playing. IP addresses are wiped after 30 days. |
| How runs go: things like which chapter, how long it took and whether you won. | To balance the game and make sure scores on the leaderboards are real. |
| Reports: if a player reports someone, we keep the report. | To deal with bad behaviour. |
| Messages to support: what you write to us and your email address. | To answer you. |
| Closed beta sign-ups on this website: your email address, the name and devices you give us (both optional), and your country (worked out from your connection, not asked). | To invite you to the beta and write to you about it. Nothing else, and never for advertising. The sign-up goes to our support inbox and onto the beta list on our game server. |
We don't ask for your real name, address, phone number, contacts, location or photos. When purchases arrive, payments are handled by Steam, Apple or Google; we never see your card details. We only learn what you bought, so we can give it to you.
Storage on your device
The game stores your settings and a copy of your save in your browser or on your device, so it can load quickly and work offline for a while. These are not advertising cookies and they are not shared with anyone. Clearing your browser's data for the game removes them. If you play as a guest without signing in, clearing them can also lose your progress.
If you sign in on this website to see the leaderboards, your browser keeps a sign-in key for elderdawn.com until you sign out. The website has no other cookies or trackers.
Who helps us run the game
A few companies handle information for us, only to provide their service, and are not allowed to use it for anything else:
- Render and our own server: run the game and store saves.
- Cloudflare: delivers the website and the game quickly and protects them from attacks.
- Resend: sends the sign-in codes when you sign in with email, and passes closed beta sign-ups from this website to our support inbox, and sends beta invites.
- Google, Apple and Steam: if you choose to sign in with them. Their own privacy policies apply to what they do.
We will also share information if the law requires it, or to protect players and the game from fraud or harm. If Gone Wrong Gaming LLC is ever sold or merged, this information may pass to the new owner under this same policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
How long we keep it
- IP addresses: 30 days.
- Email sign-in codes: a few minutes, then they stop working and are removed.
- Closed beta sign-ups: until the beta ends, then deleted, or sooner if you ask.
- Your account and progress: until you delete your account.
- After you delete your account, your sign-ins, friends and friend code are removed straight away. Your old save is kept for 30 days in case you contact support by mistake, then removed. Records of purchases may be kept longer where tax law requires it.
Children
Elderdawn is made to be safe for younger players: there are no ads, no typed chat, and playing as a guest needs no personal details. We don't knowingly collect personal information, such as an email address, from children under 13 without a parent's permission. If you think a child under 13 has given us their details, email support@gonewronggaming.com and we will delete them.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- show you the information we have about you, or send you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it (see Delete your account).
Email support@gonewronggaming.com from the address you use with the game, or include your friend code, so we can find your account. We answer within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for asking. If you live in the European Union, the UK or a US state with privacy laws (such as California), you have these rights by law, and you may also complain to your local data protection authority. Where those laws need a legal reason, ours is to provide the game you asked for, our legitimate interest in keeping it fair and safe, and the law.
Where it's stored
Our servers are in the United States. If you play from elsewhere, your information travels there, and we protect it the same way.
Keeping it safe
Connections to the game are encrypted, sign-in codes and email addresses are stored scrambled, and only the owner of Gone Wrong Gaming LLC can see player records. No system is perfect, so if something ever goes wrong we will tell affected players and fix it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is big, we'll also tell players in the game before it takes effect.
